Warren Cup. A very explicit homo-erotic scene. Here is the peeping Tom. Not for the faint hearted.

The permanent collection of the outstanding British Museum numbers about 8 million works, and is among the largest and most comprehensive worldwide. Items originate from all five continents of the world. It presents like and encyclopedia the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present days. It is particularly strong in Egyptian, Greek and Roman art. The Prints and Drawings collection are of world class as well.

The British Museum was established in 1753, housing collections of Sir Hans Sloane, 71,000 objects. It opened to the public in 1759, in Montagu House. It became the first of a new kind of museum – national, not linked to  church or king, freely open to the public and aiming to collect worldwide, everything.

In the 1850s the neo-classical front with the outsize columns was finished, by architect Sir Robert Smirke.

One of the larger bones of contention between the Greek state and the British Museum officials are the Elgin Marbles, from the Parthenon, Athens.

Fine Egyptian art everywhere. Collected over the ages.

Elgin Marbles. Saved by Lord Elgin for posterity from slowly melting away in acid rain. The Greeks think differently about it.

Mausolus, burial extravaganza.

Early Celtic goldsmithing. Buckle. Animal style.

Celtic shield. Masterwork of smithing craft. Found in the Thames river.

Another end piece of the pediment in the Acropolis, an Elgin Marble. The Greeks want it back.

Business card. Lectures & Museum visits.

Author Kaldenbach lecturing.
